Earwigs

 With their dark, elongated bodies and scary-looking rear forceps (pinchers), earwigs are easily one of the most misunderstood pests in Southern California yards. Despite the old urban legend, they don't crawl into ears to lay eggs! Instead, these nocturnal scavengers seek out dark, damp shelters under garden mulch, patio pavers, potted plants, and outdoor debris. During hot, dry spells—or after heavy landscape watering—they often migrate indoors, taking cover near baseboards, bathrooms, and damp entryways. While they are harmless to humans and don't cause structural damage, earwigs can chew jagged holes in prized garden flowers and quickly become a creeping nuisance inside the home.
