 Small, curious, and remarkably nimble, house mice are common indoor invaders that can squeeze through openings as small as a dime. Typically grey or light brown with large ears and long, thin tails, they tend to nest in dark, secluded spots near heat sources—such as behind stove walls, inside cabinets, or within insulation. Because they breed rapidly and forage constantly, a small mice presence can quickly turn into a major nuisance. Key signs of an infestation include small, rod-shaped droppings, chewed food packaging, and faint scratching noises in the walls at night. Dealing with a full-blown infestation is far more stressful and costly than preventing one. Both species have strong teeth capable of chewing through wood, plastic, and even electrical wiring, presenting serious fire and safety hazards. Because rats are cautious ("neophobic") and naturally avoid new objects in their environment, resolving a rat issue usually requires professional exclusion, structural sealing, and strategic trapping.
